Chris Cain's jazz-tinged, blues soaked guitar and deep, warm vocals have the maturity and authenticity of bluesmen many years his senior. His expressive style is the result of a lifetime of study and the relentless pursuit of music mastery.
At the age of eight, Cain taught himself to play guitar and began playing professionally before he was eighteen. Chris studied music at San Jose City College, and was soon teaching jazz improvisation on campus. Over the next twenty years, Cain would also master piano, bass guitar, clarinet, alto and tenor saxophone. The combination of his blues upbringing and his jazz studies melded to form the searing guitar style that sets Chris Cain apart and has moved him to the top ranks of the blues music scene.
Cain's debut recording, Late Night City Blues (Blue Rock'it Records-1987) garnered four W.C. Handy Blues Award nominations, including Guitarist of the Year."

Most people know Mick Mestek for his work with Tower of Power, with whom he toured for three years and recorded the 1987 album "Power". Among Mick's many touring and recording credits include Etta James, Tracy Nelson, Buddy Miles, Pete Escovedo, Charlie Musselwhite, Omega, Tommy Castro, Daniel Castro, Ron Thompson, Roy Rogers, Curtis Ohlson, Rosie Gaines, Ray Obiedo and a who's who of Bay Area favorites including The Hoodoo Rhythm Devils, Tortilla Soup and Manzo. Recently Mick got back together with his brothers in funk, Tower of Power, for the band's 40th anniversary celebration at The Fillmore.

Steve Evans has backed numerous icons of R&B including Etta James, Bo Diddley, Mary Wells, Charlie Musselwhite, Big Mama Thornton, Tracy Nelson, Lee Dorsey. Pee Wee Ellis, The Drifters, and rock artists Bob Weir & Kingfish, Brian Auger, Joan Baez, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Maria Muldaur, Swiss pop star Phil Carmen (featuring Dire straits drummer Pick Withers) and more. In the last decade and a half, Steve has recorded and/or toured nationally and internationally with numerous guitar greats including slide guitar virtuoso Roy Rogers, Pat Travers, Harvey Mandel, Coco Montoya and more.

Greg Rahn has played keyboards with a diverse range of artists from latin jazz greats Ray Obiedo, Pete Escovedo, Juan Escovedo and Roger Glenn to rock guitar legend Ronnie Montrose. A passionate composer and audio engineer, Greg's work can be heard on albums by Cake, The VW Brothers, Jim Chappel, C3 Fuzzion, and Pride & Joy, as well as over 165 video games such as Guitar Hero, Rugrats and Sponge Bob. He has also played on national TV ads for Hershey's, Huggies and Rice a Roni. His soundtracks have been honored with various industry awards.

Annie Sampson's unique approach to song - whether a blues, a rock tune, a country & western ballad or a modem folk classic, was honed in her youth by singing in Bay Area church and school choirs. She then landed a principal part in the hit musical Hair at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco. When the popular rock group STONEGROUND recruited her to become lead singer, she left the show and joined the group for a series of national and international tours. Buoyed by the popularity of their four Warner Brothers albums, Annie and Stoneground played the gamut of venues - from the Fillmore West and Winterland to Oxford University and the Olympia Theatre in Paris with stops at every major American and European city and campus in between.

A big talent like Annie's did not go unnoticed by her peers. She has recorded with Elvin Bishop, Taj Mahal, Buddy Miles, Maria Muldaur, Eddie Money and Country Joe MacDonald, as well as performed with Bonnie Raitt, Boz Scaggs, Otis Clay, Sammy Hagar, Commander Cody, Steve Miller, Nick Gravenites, Clarence Clemmons, Elvis Costello and the late Jerry Garcia - among others.

Under The Moon, Annie's new CD on her own Sweet Potatoe label, captures the salt and savor of her rich voice and warm presence. Jazz.., France has a long history with this American art form. From smoky Paris jazz clubs to the streets of New Orleans, the music pulsates with its own individual sound.
Duo Gadjo presents their interpretation of this music as a union of two cultures. Jeff is originally from San Francisco and Isabelle is French. After performing professionally in France for the past 15 years, they are now bringing their act to the Bay Area.
Duo Gadjo accompany themselves on guitars, and sing in both French and English.Their repertoire includes many standards from the American Songbook, but also some swinging Louisiana Blues featuring Jeff on slide guitar and Isabelle on washboard. Jeff and Isabelle also perform with the Hot Club of San Francisco.

Phil Berkowitz is a master of the blues harmonica and an accomplished vocalist who has been energizing the San Francisco Bay Area blues scene for more than a decade, mastering every facet of the diatonic and chromatic harmonica.
He has performed with a variety of top blues and jazz musicians such as Danny Caron, Sean Carney, Steve Freund, Wendy DeWitt, Dave Workman, Brenda Boykin, Jon Lawton, R.J. Mischo, Tom Rigney, Gary Primich, Gary Smith, David Barrett, Kid Anderson, Kenny Blue Ray, Little David Rose, Lisa Kindred, Johnny Nitro, and Billy Branch, just to name a few.
In 1996, Phil founded The High Rollers, now known as The Dirty Cats, a consistently hard working local blues band that still brings crowds to their feet with a blend of rock-solid rhythms and danceable grooves that stay true to 50's New Orleans R&B, West Coast Jump and heavy hitting Chicago blues.

Phil has released four albums to date. Phil recorded the first two albums, "The High Rollers" and "High Time," with the High Rollers, the band he founded in 1996. The two most recent CDs, “All Night Party” and “Phil Berkowitz Plays … Louis' Blues: The Music of Louis Jordan,” are solo albums on which Phil is joined by other leading Bay Area blues musicians.

Ben Rice grew up in Oregon, not exactly a blues hotbed like Chicago or Kansas City or the Mississippi Delta. But, while his buddies were listening to Nirvana and Elliott, Rice was listening to Al Green and The Isley Brothers. Soul -- and eventually the blues -- just sounded better to him.

Along with his band, Ben Rice is a 10 time Muddy Award nominee , won a Rooster Award for Best Instrumentalist 2011 by Rainy Days Blues Society, were semifinalists at the International Blues Challenge 2007 and took 2nd Place at The King Of Beale Street in Memphis.

Chuck Prophet shapes his restless career with inimitable subtle flair: a vivid parade of razor-edged one-liners camouflaged in a slack-jawed drawl, songs about heartbreak and everyman heroism, drenched in twisted lines of rude Telecaster.

National television appearances include Austin City Limits in support of No Other Love, as well as Letterman and Carson Daly, supporting 2007's Soap & Water. His music has increasingly been featured in film and television, most recently as the closing track to episode two of True Blood.

Prophet has toured with Lucinda Williams, written songs with Dan Penn and innumerable others, has been recently writing with Alejandro Escovedo, produced the most recent Kelly Willis record (who once said "If I could sing like anybody I'd like to sing like Chuck Prophet" - in response Chuck almost blushingly says "I'll have to straighten her out on that one"), and has had his songs recorded by the likes of Solomon Burke, Kim Richey, Jim Dickinson, and even Heart. He's played on the recordings of Warren Zevon, Jonathan Richman, Cake, Bob Neuwirth, Penelope Houston, Kelly Willis, and many others.

REDWING
Redwing squarely falls in the “way more than a Bluegrass Band” category, mixing the traditional repertoire of Bluegrass favorites with surprising and less-often heard gems.
The players are seasoned and active participants in the Bay Area music scene. Redwing members have played all the major local venues. Redwing consists of Polly Frizzell on fiddle/viola, Bob Johnson on dobro, Alan Dreyfus on guitar and bass, Rick “Red” Horlick on mandolin and Olivier Zyngier on bass, and guitar. The band features terrific 2 and 3 part vocal harmonies that really bring their repertoire to life.
The ingredient that spices up the Redwing sauce is the arranging. You’re as likely to hear old bluegrass standards as well as more modern country songs. Traditional fiddle tunes are played as fast and expertly as expected, and may often surprise you with a tasty new approach. One of Northern California’s premier bluegrass bands, the Alhambra Band has played major festivals in three western states, and this SFBOT show is a home coming of sorts, since they come from Martinez.
For years, audiences all over the West have thrilled to the Alhambra Valley Band's blend of original material and Bluegrass standards. The band’s personnel have changes some in their 20-plus years, but always features some of the area’s most accomplished bluegrass musicians. The band’s lineup is Lynn Quinones on guitar, Jill Cruey on fiddle, Dan Large on mandolin, Mitch Polzak on banjo and Bruce Campbell. All the members sing and contribute original music to the band as well.

Sin came to California from Ireland 5 years ago where she started playing at East Bay piano bars. At such venues, she played, and indeed, still plays popular covers, Irish music and, of course, her originals.

Sin Silver and the Avenue is her effort to bring those originals to the main stream.

The music is essentially piano driven rock/pop with an Irish sensibility with influences from Elton John, Billy Joel, Tori Amos and Irish folk.

Justin Vanegas is an accomplished guitarist who met Sin on the East Bay circuit. He has toured with successful bands and has a degree in music from Humboldt county.
Michael Carrera, who has played with the Blue Devils drum core and many other bands found Silver Avenue by way of a mutual friend.

Finally: What's in a name?
Sin is short for Sinead and Silver Avenue is an exit on the way to SFO. Sinead was travelling to Ireland and Silver Avenue 'spoke' to her. She claims the name picked her.

LEGENDARY RADIO PERSONALITY, MUSICIAN AND HUMORIST, Master trombonist Mal Sharpe has been a much-admired and pivotal member of the San Francisco jazz scene for more than 40 years. In addition to leading his Dixieland jazz band, The Big Money In Jazz Band in gigs all over the Bay Area, Mal hosts a regular Sunday night show “Back On Basin Street” on KCSM/Jazz 91. He does commercials and voice-overs, gives interviews, writes books and is involved with a number of North Beach community projects. Mal made his name as a member of the legendary and ground-breaking "man on the street" comedy team, Coyle & Sharpe, in the 1960s.

Mal Sharpe can be heard every Sunday at 9 p.m. on KCSM FM's Back on Basin Street.

Henry Salvia, wizard of the keyboard, has worked with artists such as Bo Diddley, Rickie Lee Jones, Johnny Colla (of Huey Lewis and the News), Big Jay McNeeley, Jessica Mitford, Tommy Ridgely, Al Kooper, Peter Coyote, Big Lou the Accordion Princess, Jan Fanucci, and (his favorite) Johnny Adams.

Travis Jones, popular blue-eyed Bay Area singer and guitarist, seen in many venues with bands such as LARGE AND IN THE WAY and who has worked closely over the years with leading Bay Area musicians.

Chris Lee, a classically trained cellist with a degree in ethnomusicology, is a busy Bay Area bassist, having recorded and performed with, among others, Peter Rowan, Norah Jones and Jim Lauderdale, as well as being an original member of the Waybacks.

Peter Tucker, percussionist extraordinaire, has worked with the latest, the greatest and the oldest, from THE MONKS to THE WAYBACKS and everything in between.
