Rory Snyder is the Director of Jazz Studies at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill and for 16 years was the Director of Bands at Homestead High School and Jazz Director at Santa Clara University. He earned a B.A. from UCLA and an M.M. from the University of Northern Colorado, and is in demand as an adjudicator, clinician and guest artist throughout the west. He served as the Northern President of the Music Association of California Community Colleges (MACCC).
Rory recorded his first CD as a leader, "New York Sessions" featuring Michael Wolff - piano, Wallace Roney - trumpet, John Patitucci - basses, and Victor Jones - drums.
He has recorded 5 album/CD projects with Dave Eshelman's Jazz Garden Big Band, and two with the Mike Vax Jazz Orchestra. He has appeared as a sideman with Johnny Mathis, Clark Terry, Ed Shaughnessy, the Smothers Brothers, Jack Jones, Vicki Carr, Bob Newhart, Don Menza, Toshiko Akiyoshi/Lew Tabackin, Bobby Shew, The Temptations, and many more.

A sound for the ages... from the old school crooners of Motown to the quiet storm... from inklings of the jazz greats to classic R&B, it’s all here. Shadee appeared as Jazz singer Blue Williams in the Lorraine Hansberry Theater’s 2005 production of the dramatic-musical play “Blue”. As stated by the San Francisco Chronicle Theater Critic Robert Hurwitt: “...Nona Hendryx’s gently swinging and blues-ballad melodies are sung with expressive delicacy and fine Phrasings, especially by Shadee Rashada as the title character... Rashada sings beautifully...”

A multi-keyboard player, from melodica to grand piano...R&B, jazz, funk and rock. Tim has been in groups with drummer Mike Mau (Stoneground), opened for Sly Stone and appeared on various TV shows. Tim has gigged with members of Santana, Scott Peterson, Steve Heckman. Graham Bruce and Martha Blackard, Bryan Girard, Mad & Eddie Duran and Noel Jeweks.

Tony a fine jazz guitarist, has played with Bill Bell, Lavay Smith and many Blues greats.

Jerald is a sought after recording and touring drummer.

Mark Holzinger brings a deft human touch to the stage. His performances include church in his early days, to nightclubs and concerts across the nation. He's performed and composed for original music bands and played as band member for prominent stars such as Rickie Lee Jones, Vince Welnick and Missing Man Formation, Big Joe Turner, David Benoit, Marvin Gaye, Cumberland Blues stage band and Bobby McFerrin, to name a few.

Mark has also been featured in the opening act on major tours with artists like Van Morrison, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Los Lobos, Charlie Hunter, Vince Gill, String Cheese Incident, Chris Isaak, Omar Sosa, Duane Eddy and the Neville Brothers.
Currently he is also performing with Lost Weekend, Groove.org and the Pitchfork Trio.

Daniel Fabricant has performed as a freelance bassist with world-class acts such as Mary Wilson of the Supremes, Lorna Luft, Lisa Vroman, Andrea Marcovicci, Klea Blackhurst, Linda Lavin, Paula West and Spencer Day.

Mikie Lee Prasad, hailing from Denver, Colorado and now in Concord, California, co-hosted the Monday Blues jam with the Steve Gannon band at Blake’s in Berkeley from early 2000- to October 2004 and hosted Acoustic Wednesdays at Blakes from July 2001- Janruary 2005.
His music has been described as "Graham Parsons meets Little Feat meets The Band."

The Alhambra Valley Band has been contributing talent and energy to the California Bluegrass scene since 1986.
Also known for award-winning original material and vocal harmony arrangements, this Northern-California-based ensemble of roots musicians is spreading the gospel according to Bluegrass to an ever-grooving base of fans and converts.

Lynn Quinones is an award winning songwriter and has been a champion of the Bay Area bluegrass scene for years. She combines a deep reverence for traditional music with the creativity and skill to experiment with new sounds and rhythms. The distinctive melodies in her compositions, her “ That’s what I’m talkin’ about!” rhythm guitar style, and her considerable vocal talent form the Alhambra Valley Band’s signature sound.

AVB’s co-founder, Jill Cruey, is a gifted fiddler with an impressive knowledge of bluegrass and old time music styles.

Mandolin player, Dan Large adds his own innovative touch to the AVB’s original material, singing lead or providing baritone harmonies for the bands highly regarded vocal “trio”.

Mitch Polzak is comfortable in styles from rockabilly to honky-tonk and provides the driving banjo sound for the AVB.

More than just a top-notch bass player, Bruce Campbell brings a sense of humor, fun and balance to the AVB. Bruce was just elected as a Director of the Board of the California Bluegrass Association.

LEGENDARY RADIO PERSONALITY, MUSICIAN AND HUMORIST,
Master trombonist Mal Sharpe has been a much-admired and pivotal member of the San Francisco jazz scene for more than 40 years. In addition to leading his Dixieland jazz band, The Big Money In Jazz Band in gigs all over the Bay Area, Mal hosts a regular Sunday night show “Back On Basin Street” on KCSM/Jazz 91. He does commercials and voice-overs, gives interviews, writes books and is involved with a number of North Beach community projects. Mal made his name as a member of the legendary and ground-breaking "man on the street" comedy team, Coyle & Sharpe, in the 1960s. We're sure he spent his fair share of time at the Purple Onion in those days!

Mal Sharpe can be heard every Sunday at 9 p.m. on KCSM FM's Back on Basin Street.

Jeff Magidson, renowned for his searing guitar work, was born in San Francisco into a family of musicians.
He attended U.C. Santa Barbara, U.C. Berkeley, then in 1983 went to study in France for a year,where he was asked to join a 'Jug Band' and travel Europe playing acoustic Blues and Jazz. His studies ended and his career began.
In 1990 he started performing solo as a one man band, playing simultaneously the bass drum, high hat, dobro, and harmonica. In 1993 he started a trio under the name 'John Doe' and began playing his own compositions, a mix of Blues, Folk, and Funk.
Three albums, two kids, and ten years later, his wife, Isabelle, and he decided to move the family to California. They've been here since 2004 and perform together under the name 'Duo Gadjo'
Jeff also plays rhythm guitar with the Hot Club of San Francisco and is music director at Red House Studios in Walnut Creek, California.

The California Honeydrops were formed in November of 2007 playing in the subway stations of Oakland, CA. Playfully crossing genres from roots and blues to R&B and soul, The California Honeydrops’ sound is tied together by their unique instrumentation, soulful vocal harmonies, and a funky, good time -New Orleans style.

Digging deep into the traditions of American music, the California Honeydrops bring to the stage not only an unmatched level of musicianship and authenticity but also a funky good time that’s hard to beat. Seth Ford-Young has been performing since 1989. His studies include Jazz and Classical music, with Jazz theory, performance and arranging under famed bassist, Ray Brown. Seth has performed with Tom Waits, Jelly Roll, Smith, Gail, and Sasha Dobson, Mark Growden's Electric Pinata, Tim Hesla Big Band, Graham Connah, Marcus Shelby Quartet (subbing for Marcus), Connie Champagne, Bishop Norman Williams, Hal Stein, Ben Goldberg, Myles Boisen, Morris Acevedo, Lucky Seven, D.J. Quest, B.J. Pappa, Tropical Caliente, Matt Clark, Donald "Duck" Bailey, Denise Perrier, Tommy Thomsen, John Schott, Spencer Day and more too numerous to mention.

Johnny Bones has been performing in the Bay Area Jazz scene since 1992. He has played with Dizzy Gillespie, Percy Heath, Eddie Palmieri and Nell Carter, among others.

The vibrant rhythm section of The California Honeydrops is fueled by the barrelhouse style of Oakland piano veteran Chris Burns (Albert Collins, Freddie Hughes, Maria Muldaur) and Ben Malament (Terry Reid, The Marvelettes, Dale Spaulding).
